About

DVK Vasudevan fondly called Violin Vasu is a classically trained, Contemporary World Musician, who has been enthralling audiences globally as a soloist, duet player and collaborator for the past two decades. Having dedicated his life to learning, researching, teaching and performing Western and Indian Classical Music, his versatility has allowed him to give more than 1,000 performances and taken him to major music festivals across USA, France, Bangkok and India; including Worldwood fest, Namaste France, IFFI Goa, Thai Fest, Living Heritage Fest, Sankat Mochan Fest etc.

He is a 6th generation disciple in the St. Tyagaraja lineage and formally trained by legendary musician and one of the senior most musicians of India – Dr. Annavarapu Ramaswamy.

He prefers for music to not be complex but be deep and soulful. The performances rather than being driven to showcase one’s own prowess, are offered with the desire to make music electrifying, enchanting, powerful and aesthetically appealing. His dream is to have people lose and find themselves through the ageless joy of Music.

Being qualified in Indian and Western music genres, his academic contributions in terms of teaching and research have served student communities at India’s premier educational institutions including Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, International Institute of Information Technology – Hyderabad  and Hyderabad Central University. He has been regarded as one of the most sought after Carnatic Violin Gurus in the world, with thousands of followers across the world.

A firm believer and proponent of Indian culture and heritage, in 2004, he went on to establish a few performing arts academies – Gurukulam and Rockstudios, that today serves both Carnatic and Western music learners and lovers.  He also founded Sanskriti Foundation which offers music and human values workshops in an attempt to help build India of the 21st Century. Till date these workshops have served prisoners and more than 100,000 children in Government Schools and Juvenile Homes.

Having won multiple awards including the prestigious President’s Award from the late Indian president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he also holds a Postgraduate in Music from University of Madras, Grade 8 in Western Music Theory from Trinity College London, multiple diplomas from Telugu University and a research fellowship from Government of India. He is currently researching on the music education systems applied in India and in the West at University of Mysuru.
